Product Description

Recycled Glass Porous Pavement

Storm water run-off and drainage control are always concerns with any kind of paving project.

Drainage must comply with DEC regulations for storm water run-off, and this often means installing large draining wells beneath the surface.

Porous pavement creates a surface that, while structurally sound, is self-draining since water runs through it.

Advantages of Porous Pavement

  • It helps solve the storm water run-off pollution problem
Storm water run-off is a major problem plaguing our coastal regions. In heavy rainfalls water washes over paved surfaces, collecting oil and many other pollutants, and in most cases runs straight into our bays and estuaries unimpeded and unfiltered. Porous pavement allows water to run right through it and leach through the soil (nature’s filtration process) – the result is a much more environmentally-friendly paving area.
  • It solves drainage problems
The big issue with most paving projects is drainage. A paved parking lot usually requires the addition of large drainage wells set well below the surface to handle drainage and prevent run-off, and they are costly to install. Using a porous pavement that self-drains often means drainage wells are no longer needed – which often saves significant project costs.
  • It allows for the use of recycled materials
For a July 2009 boat ramp revitalization project in Mattituck, NY recycled glass was used for porous pavement. Why glass? It’s durable, safe, looks great, offers great traction for tires and, best of all, helps solve the problem of the overabundance of glass in landfills.
  • It looks great
Porous pavement, especially when made from recycled glass, looks great in the finished product. Since porous pavement is cast-in-place custom shapes and colors can be created – resulting in an attractive, customized look for your paved area.
In general, the cost of installing porous recycled glass surfaces runs about $11-12 per square foot. Each job requires it's own individual quote. Please contact Greener Country from anywhere on the east coast for a free estimate, private or public.
