"Plastic" Grocery Bags - Corn Plastic
The plastic grocery bag is here to stay.  But there is a better alternative to virgin plastics.  The new "corn plastic" grocery bags are just as strong as traditional plastic, but once it's thrown away, it will naturally biodegrade.  Made from a renewable source, US grown corn, the bioshopper shopping bags are the natural choice over petroleum-based plastic bags.

Bio Shopper bags are made in part from corn, an annually renewable resource. They will fully compost in 30-60 days in composting conditions.

Countries that have banned or taken action to discourage the use of plastic bags include Australia, Bangladesh, Ireland, Italy, South Africa and Taiwan. Mumbai, India, also has banned plastic bags. The City of San Francisco has levied a 17 cent tax on all plastic grocery bags.

The amount of petroleum used to make a plastic bag would drive a car about 11 meters. 230,000 plastic supermarket bags are dumped in landfills every hour. About 100,000 whales, seals, turtles and other marine animals are killed by plastic bags each year worldwide, according to Planet Ark, an international environmental group.

It is estimated that Americans use 84 billion plastic bags annually.

• BioBags "breathe", which allows heat and moisture to escape or evaporate. This feature reduces bacterial build-up of collected waste, thus reducing odor.
  
• BioBags will decompose in a controlled composting environment in 10-45 days, leaving no harmful residues behind.
  
• BioBags will decompose in a natural setting at an extended rate comparable to other naturally biodegradable materials, such as paper, leaves and food waste.
  
• BioBags will biodegrade in both fresh and salt water. Australian studies suggest decomposition occurs between 8-14 months. We do not support placing any material in our oceans, lakes or waterways.
